Egyptian Blue Locket

from $145.00

My handcrafted shaker lockets are filled with fine artist pigments. Each locket measures about 13mm wide and 22mm tall including the bail.

EGYPTIAN BLUE is a blue pigment from ancient Egypt, with its first recorded use in 3250 BCE. It is the world’s first synthetic pigment, which the Egyptians created as an alternative to precious blue pigments like lapis lazuli. The process they used to make the pigment was extremely advanced and the steps have been lost to time — but scientists in the modern day have reverse-engineered the chemical makeup and found a way to recreate a chemically identical pigment to the original which is now being used in a variety of practical applications such as fingerprint dusting in addition to use as a fine art pigment.

Handcrafted to order, please allow up to 8 weeks for your pigment jewelry to be made.

You can add chains or earring findings here if desired. Make sure to get two lockets if you plan to have a pair of earrings made.

Note: I can make these lockets with any material inside. Contact me if you would like a different pigment used. If you have your own object (other than pigment) that you would like put in a locket, please reach out here.
